How to deal with anger during perimenopause: Marisela went from almost losing her family to regaining her calm

Mujer con ira

“I knew I had to do something urgently the day I almost hit my son, just for asking me to hand him the remote control!” Marisela confessed.

She had been feeling strange for weeks: she would explode with rage over anything.

“If my husband didn’t take out the trash, he would start a storm; he would lose his temper with my mother; he would speak harshly to my coworkers,” she recalls sadly.

Until she discovered how to cope with anger during perimenopause.

What triggers anger issues?

Marisela's reactions filled her with shame. Her family was broken because of her.

“How can I be such a horrible person?” she asked herself.

She felt stressed, alone and misunderstood.

The physical changes of perimenopause increased her anger.

  • I woke up at night with horrible heat.
  • She hated her body with extra kilos.
  • Premenstrual symptoms made her unbearable.
  • In intimate relationships she ended up fighting with her husband, because they hurt her.

How to deal with anger? Marisela wondered.

Marisela's friends, who still tolerated her, were her lifeline.

They encouraged her to seek professional help and that is how she came to my office.

Do you know what he said to me when he saw me? “I'm going crazy.”

I explained to her that 70% of women suffer from the same thing and that their mood swings were due to the fact that estrogen and progesterone levels drop dramatically after age 40.

And with this, the hormones that made her feel good, calm and happy (serotonin and dopamine) decrease. In addition, chronic stress increases, bringing strong emotions to the surface.

How to deal with anger during perimenopause, just like Marisela?

  • She accepted that anger is cyclical : she understood that her angry feelings would come and go like ocean waves, as estrogen and progesterone levels stabilized.
  • She keeps an anger diary : she found that when she was very stressed, didn't sleep enough, or didn't exercise, she was angrier.
  • She sought support : She decided to speak openly with her loved ones, friends and coworkers about the changes she was going through. This made her feel supported, something that many women do not do for fear of being judged.
  • Take a step back : Before exploding in anger, you step back to avoid taking out your frustration on others and ask yourself: “Is this person or situation worthy of so much anger from me? What is really bothering me?” Often, just by reflecting for a moment, you can calm down and move forward more calmly.
  • Nourish your body with supplements: Marisela discovered that there are natural supplements that help balance hormones and improve perimenopausal symptoms. She started taking the supplement, Serena, with magnesium glycinate, taking advantage of the benefits of ashwagandha , B vitamins, and other nutrients. Little by little, the anger began to dissipate.

  • She started exercising again: She found that just 40 minutes a day of yoga, beach walks or other physical activity made her feel much calmer and her hostility decreased.
  • She practices meditation : she has managed to reduce stress, lower her blood pressure and balance her hormones. She feels calmer and in a better mood.

Marisela's change didn't happen overnight, but with better sleep, more energy, less stress and signs of perimenopause, her mood improved noticeably. Are you inspired by Marisela's story?

Important: If you feel your anger getting out of hand, seek medical help or mental health therapy.
